We are seeking a highly skilled Water Safety Professional to join our team at The Salvation Army Great Lakes Division. This is a vital role that requires the ability to provide exceptional service to our members and visitors while ensuring their safety in our aquatic facilities.

Job Summary

The Water Safety Professional will be responsible for monitoring activities, observing and providing assistance to swimmers, preventing accidents, protecting life, and enforcing regulations as well as controlling access to pools, family locker rooms, and lockers. This includes providing first aid when necessary, assisting with the implementation of and teaching swimming lessons and other aquatics programs, and supporting swim lessons, record keeping, lesson cards, and lesson plans. Additionally, the Water Safety Professional will assist with general facility maintenance and cleaning duties as assigned.

Responsibilities
  • Enforce pool rules and regulations to maintain a safe environment for all users.
  • Analyze situations quickly and take effective action to prevent accidents.
  • Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning and provide first aid, rescue breathing, and CPR when needed.
  • Inspect and maintain cleanliness of swimming pool areas, locker rooms, restrooms, trash cans, cleaning equipment, aquatic equipment storage areas, and other designated areas.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports as assigned.
  • Assist with swim lessons and aquatic programs as directed.
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers and customers in person and over the phone.
  • Adhere to The Salvation Army mission and values in all aspects of employment.
  • Perform setup and breakdown of facility equipment as needed.
  • Follow and enforce the equipment checkout program, reporting defects and necessary repairs.
  • Ensure that all aquatic equipment is properly maintained and inventoried on a regular basis.
  • Present a professional appearance at all times while on duty.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Meet regularly with Aquatics Manager/Pool Supervisors to coordinate operational issues and ensure sound fiscal and budgetary requirements.
  • Work cooperatively with the Aquatic Team to discuss problems and find solutions within the aquatic center.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings and in-service trainings as required.
  • Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must be at least 16 years of age and have a preferred experience as a lifeguard. You should also possess basic computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft office programs and email. American Red Cross certifications, such as Lifeguard Training, CPR, and First Aid, are required before starting employment. Additionally, Safe From Harm Training is required within 21 days of employment. We desire applicants who can speak Spanish but it's not required.

We estimate the annual salary for this position to be around $38,000-$50,000 depending on the location and qualifications of the candidate.
