Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Master Craftsman to lead our construction projects. As a key member of our team, you will oversee various tasks, including installing doors and windows, building wood or metal framed structures, assembling concrete forms/shoring, concrete finishing, form setting, and rodbuster/ironworking.

This role reports directly to a Foreman and involves working with minimal supervision. The Master Craftsman sets the pace, delegates tasks when necessary, enforces safety procedures, and completes complex tasks that require carpentry skills.

The ideal candidate will have experience managing portions of a crew and projects, possessing strong carpentry skills, and being able to accomplish tasks given by the Foreman and leading crew members.

The Master Craftsman's duties include:

  • Framing: Constructing the framework of buildings using wood or metal materials.
  • Coaching Tradesmen and Laborers: Providing guidance and training to junior staff members to improve their skills and efficiency.
  • Reading Blueprints: Interpreting architectural plans to ensure accurate construction.
  • Rough Carpentry: Performing initial carpentry tasks, such as cutting and assembling lumber.
  • Setting Windows and Doors: Installing windows and doors to ensure proper fit and function.
  • Stair Layout and Assembly: Designing and constructing staircases that meet safety and building codes.
  • Selecting Lumber by Size, Strength, Cutting, and Placing: Choosing the right materials for each project and ensuring they are cut and placed correctly.

In addition to framing, the Master Craftsman may also be involved in concrete work, including:

  • Coaching Tradesmen and Laborers: Training junior staff members on concrete-related tasks.
  • Cutting and Placing Rebar, Foam, or Vapor Barriers: Ensuring proper installation of rebar, foam, or vapor barriers for concrete projects.
  • Concrete Formwork Assemblies, Formwork Setting, and Stripping: Building and dismantling formwork for concrete pours.
  • Concrete Placement and Consolidation: Pouring and smoothing concrete to achieve desired finishes.
  • Flatwork Finishing (Use of Mags, Trowels, Brooms, Power Screeds, and Power Trowels): Finishing concrete floors and other flat surfaces.
  • Reading Rebar Shops: Interpreting rebar designs and specifications for concrete projects.
