KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Assigns available personnel, evaluates triage assignments, and makes necessary adjustments during shifts. Plans and coordinates staffing requirements for upcoming shifts while assessing future needs.
- Models interprofessional communication, which encompasses active listening and education, sharing organizational information, and all facets of administrative and clinical practice respectfully and positively with staff.
- Exhibits fair and consistent leadership skills to enhance team dynamics and teambuilding strategies through problem-solving and coaching. Supports adherence to policies and administers disciplinary actions when necessary. Aids in staff stress management as required.
- Enhances departmental metrics for turnover, retention, and employee engagement.
- Facilitates and streamlines the admission, discharge, transfer, and bed control processes to optimize patient flow. Monitors and ensures timely patient movement to maintain process efficiency.
- Oversees hospital operations during assigned shifts, effectively managing administrative issues and documenting relevant information for executive staff and managers.
- Collaborates with public relations to handle external media interactions.
- Addresses issues related to patient/family care, visitor concerns, and facility matters during off-hours and weekends. Promotes service standards and initiatives to enhance patient satisfaction scores through accountability and role modeling.
- Monitors and evaluates work methods and staff scheduling, making necessary adjustments to ensure high service quality and cost-effectiveness.
- Maintains awareness and responsiveness to all emergency codes and disaster preparedness, coordinating actions during critical situations. Models situational awareness and utilizes teachable moments to enhance safety.
- Participates in or leads departmental process improvement initiatives.
- Engages in daily care coordination rounds to facilitate patient progression. Manages bed closures and staffing allocations to enhance efficiencies and minimize overtime.
- Implements departmental strategies to meet financial targets and staffing requirements, mentoring others to achieve similar outcomes through timely documentation, reducing length of stay, and optimizing efficiency.
- Acts as a mentor and actively participates in hospital quality, service, and shared governance councils, recommending improvements across departments and quality initiatives. Supports change initiatives and adapts to unexpected developments.
- Identifies personal and staff developmental needs and takes appropriate actions. Ensures ongoing career discussions with management and regularly updates the individual development plan (IDP).
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited nursing program.
- Master's degree is preferred.
- A minimum of five years of hospital experience in nursing; for internal candidates, four years of nursing experience demonstrating progressive leadership capabilities, such as charge nurse responsibilities.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS - REQUIRED
- RN - Registered Nurse - Texas State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure within 60 days OR
- RN-Temp - Registered Nurse - Temporary State Licensure within 60 days AND
- BLS - Basic Life Support (AHA) AND
- NVCRISIS - Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) within 90 days AND
- Magnet - ANCC Recognized Certification within 1 year.
- Demonstrates the necessary skills and competencies to safely perform assigned duties, as assessed through ongoing evaluations.
- Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English to fulfill essential job functions, particularly those affecting patient or employee safety.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, family members, and colleagues, emphasizing customer service and positive language principles.
- Exhibits successful conflict resolution skills in a timely manner with patients, families, physicians, and other healthcare team members.
- Demonstrates professionalism and consistently exemplifies excellent customer service skills.
