Vehicle Maintenance Technician
This job opportunity is for a full-time position within the Metro General Services department, focusing on skilled repair and upkeep of light-duty motor vehicles, including cars and trucks with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 19,900 pounds or less, along with associated equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect, diagnose, and rectify mechanical issues in motor vehicles and related apparatus.
- Maintain and service gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, air conditioning, electrical systems, and other automotive components.
- Repair or replace worn or faulty parts as necessary.
- Adjust carburetors, perform fuel injection tasks, and conduct tune-ups and emissions evaluations.
- Conduct road tests on vehicles before and after maintenance.
- Ensure that proper service protocols are adhered to.
- Complete work orders and parts requisitions, sourcing parts from the inventory.
- Transport vehicles to dealerships for specialized maintenance and warranty work.
- Maintain tools and ensure the workshop area is clean and organized.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and guidelines.
- Follow road maps and manuals accurately.
- May perform brake lathe and tire balancing duties.
- Participate in seminars and training sessions as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
A High School Diploma or equivalent, along with one (1) year of experience in the repair of light-duty motor vehicles, or a High School Diploma or GED combined with completion of Automotive Repair training from an accredited trade institution.
Licenses Required:
A valid Driver's License is mandatory. Candidates with qualifications obtained from foreign institutions are encouraged to apply.
Note:
In accordance with Metro Ordinance No. SO, all employees of the Metropolitan Government must be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents within six (6) months of employment as a condition of employment.
Experience in installing, operating, analyzing data, and maintaining diagnostic tools is essential, along with proficiency in using hand and pneumatic tools, brake lathes, and related repair equipment.
