Job Summary

Under the supervision of a senior surgical team member, this role assists in the preparation, execution, and completion of surgical procedures. The Surgical Technician Senior provides expert support and maintenance of instruments and equipment, ensuring a safe and efficient operating room environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinates the setup and arrangement of equipment and supplies in the operating room.
  • Checks and verifies the sterility, cleanliness, and functionality of instruments and equipment before each procedure.
  • Assists in the allocation of equipment for procedures and coordinates the configuration of equipment for ease of use.
  • Provides expert support and assistance to the surgical team during procedures, including handing instruments and supplies to the surgeon and holding retractors as directed.
  • Counts and verifies the number of sponges, needles, and instruments before and after each procedure, adhering to hospital policy.
  • Cleans and sterilizes equipment and assists in the turnover of the operating room.
  • Recommends guidelines for the use of equipment, purchase of new or replacement equipment, and additional parts and supplies to the manager.
  • Assembles and prepares case carts with supplies, instruments, and equipment for procedures.
Requirements
  • Minimum two years of current acute Operating Room experience.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Strong experience with various surgical specialties, including minimally invasive, general, ENT, and orthopedic procedures.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence and effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification in Surgical Technology.
  • Experience with video and orthopedic equipment.
