Tanker Port Engineer Job Description

USMMI is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Tanker Port Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for overseeing the technical and maintenance aspects of our tankers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Advocate for shipboard safety and support timely attention to any safety issues.
  • Supervise and participate in the evaluation and approval of voyage repairs and maintenance services.
  • Assist in planning and executing maintenance, repairs, and regulatory inspections.
  • Develop work specifications for voyage and emergency repairs.
  • Oversee dry-docking and associated surveys, including on-site supervision.
  • Provide oversight for vessel Masters and Chief Engineers to ensure efficient and safe operations.
  • Recommend personnel for senior positions and ensure career support for junior officers.
  • Coordinate with terminals, vendors, and other functions to service vessels efficiently.
  • Act as the maintenance/readiness point of contact with customers and charterers.
  • Ensure operations are carried out in accordance with USMMI ISM procedures.
  • Support the Program Manager in handling and closing out claims.
  • Act on continuous improvement initiatives and participate in internal audits.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Logistics, or equivalent.
  • USCG License or equivalent international standard as Chief Engineer.
  • Experience sailing on tankers or as a Port Engineer for a tanker management company.
  • Equivalent experience in a supervisory position or service ashore in a supervisory role.
  • Project management experience and vessel management experience.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a Secret level security clearance.
Technical Skills and Competencies:
  • Computer literacy in PC and Marine Management Software systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for conducting day-to-day business.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in various forums.
  • Superior writing and documentation skills.
  • Advanced communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution capabilities.

Travel Requirements:
