Job Description

The Plant Accountant plays a critical role in the financial health and efficiency of the plant operations. This position is responsible for managing the accounting functions of a manufacturing plant, ensuring accurate financial records, and providing financial analysis and support to the plant management team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Financial Reporting and Analysis: Lead the month-end close process, including journal entries, account reconciliations, income statement and balance sheet analysis, and monitoring and reporting on plant performance.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in the preparation of the plant's annual budget and develop and maintain financial forecasts, including sales, production costs, and capital expenditures.
  • Cost Accounting: Maintain the plant's cost accounting activities, including standard costs and variance analysis, and analyze cost variances and implement cost control measures.
  • Inventory Management: Oversee the accounting and reporting of inventory, including raw materials and finished goods.
  • Accounts Receivable: Serve as backup for daily cash entry, bank reporting, customer entry, and reporting, and ensure balance agrees with E1 general ledger by reviewing system integrity reports.
  • Credit Management: Determine credit limits for new customers and manage credit holds daily, taking action as appropriate.
  • Accounts Payable: Serve as backup to Senior Financial Assistant for daily voucher entry, purchase order invoice entry, and freight invoice entry, and ensure balance agrees with E1 general ledger by reviewing system integrity reports.
  • E1: Serve as location expert in E1 (ERP System) and help manufacturing with work orders and daily transactions, supporting customer service and finance.
  • Operational Support: Collaborate with plant leadership to identify and implement process improvements, provide financial insights and recommendations, and assist in evaluating capital expenditure projects and ROI analysis.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Lead and develop two direct reports, providing coaching, mentoring, and performance management, and foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the finance team.
  • Policies & Procedures: Ensure the Finance team is in compliance with all corporate policies and procedures.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in the Continuous Improvement process by leading or participating on at least one CI project annually.
  • Audit: Participate in audit requests and prepare audit schedules and other reports as required and necessary.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • CPA, CMA, or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of accounting experience in a manufacturing plant environment.
  • Knowledge of GAAP, cost accounting principles, and financial analysis techniques.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., JD Edwards, Oracle, SAP).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
