Overview

This role involves providing essential nursing and therapeutic support by executing care plans established by healthcare professionals. The position typically requires assistance for clients/patients/residents with varying degrees of physical, mental, or developmental challenges.

Key Responsibilities

The following are essential duties that are common across all roles within this classification. This list is not exhaustive and may include other related tasks:

Offers guidance and orientation to newly hired or less experienced staff, ensuring that tasks are completed effectively. Facilitates individual and group therapeutic sessions focusing on reality orientation, sensory engagement, mobility exercises, and the use of assistive devices. Collaborates with an interdisciplinary care team to provide insights regarding the individual’s overall health status, capabilities, and behavioral traits. Maintains the integrity of feeding, catheter, and respiratory devices while assisting individuals with personal hygiene tasks. Monitors and documents vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure, while also tracking nutritional intake and output. Alerts professional staff to any significant changes or irregularities. Provides detailed oral and written reports regarding any changes in the individual’s physical or behavioral condition. Observes client/patient/resident activities, documenting and reporting any unusual or hazardous behaviors. Conducts regular checks to ensure the safety and well-being of those in care. Assists individuals in attending social, recreational, and medical appointments both on and off campus. Implements appropriate strategies to prevent or de-escalate challenging behaviors.

Job Qualifications

Requirements for Nursing Support Specialist

Candidates must possess the necessary education, training, and/or experience demonstrating proficiency in the following areas:

Valid certification as a Nursing Assistant in Delaware or eligibility for such certification.

Employment Conditions
