Job Summary:

The Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration is seeking a highly skilled Orthopedic Surgeon to join our team at the Sioux Falls VA Medical Center. As a General Surgeon/Physician, you will be responsible for providing exceptional care to our nation's veterans in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and treat common orthopedic surgical conditions, including surgical and non-surgical treatment of diseases and injuries to the musculoskeletal system.
  • Participate in call schedule after hours and respond promptly in emergent situations.
  • See patients in consultation in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Provide care of the Veterans' medical needs by performing examination, surgical consultation, and developing treatment and follow-up plans.
  • Provide ongoing patient and family education throughout the course of treatment.
  • Mentor, train, and supervise residents and mid-levels in all aspects of their duties as required.

Work Schedule:

7:00am - 3:00pm (PT .4 FTE - 16 hours, schedule to be determined in the interview)

Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia
  • Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English

Preferred Experience:

Clinical and surgical orthopedic experience is required
