As a key member of the team reporting to the Purchasing Manager, this role serves as the primary advocate for packaging within the organization, acting as the main point of contact for all internal stakeholders, clients, and suppliers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of innovative and cost-effective packaging specifications, ensuring optimal purchasing decisions are made regarding specifications, pricing, timing, and supplier selection to uphold brand integrity and operational efficiency.
  • Coordinate and oversee packaging trials, managing the creation and distribution of essential packaging documentation such as cutter guides, pallet configurations, component schematics, and material specifications.
  • Collaborate with clients and the planning team to determine the most economically advantageous quantities of packaging to enhance stock availability, lead times, and pricing for production readiness.
  • Engage with suppliers to provide accurate forecasts, ensuring the availability of raw materials for packaging orders.
  • Offer guidance to clients and stakeholders on suitable packaging options to guarantee the selection of the most appropriate packaging and suppliers.
  • Work alongside finance, commercial teams, and clients to identify and address issues related to slow-moving and obsolete packaging inventory.
  • Monitor the packaging market to keep stakeholders informed about innovative solutions and trends.
  • Act as the primary contact for packaging suppliers involved in new product development projects and artwork modifications.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety standards.
  • Align with the core values of the organization.

Required Skills:

  • Experience in packaging procurement, ideally within a fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) environment.
  • Basic understanding of packaging materials, particularly flexible and carton board options.
  • Familiarity with purchasing systems and processes.
  • Experience conducting line trials to appreciate the significance of packaging in the efficient operation of packing lines.
  • A proactive self-starter capable of working independently while contributing to a team environment, exhibiting strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to foster relationships both internally and externally.
  • Proficient in computer applications including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and MS Outlook.
  • A commitment to the role and the organization demonstrated through consistent attendance and a willingness to engage in learning opportunities and projects beyond the immediate scope of the position.
