About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Anesthesia Technician to join our team at St. David's North Austin Medical Center. As a key member of our perioperative team, you will play a crucial role in delivering top-quality patient care by providing essential anesthesia support during surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and organize equipment and supplies for scheduled and emergent cases in anesthetizing locations, ensuring that anesthesia staff have the necessary equipment and supplies for routine and challenging cases.
  • Create and maintain orderly, well-stocked anesthesia carts of all types, anticipating anesthetist's preferences for efficient setup.
  • Transport and set up equipment needed for procedures, including laryngoscope blades, monitors, EKG cables, ETCO2 lines, pulse oximetry cables, temperature cables, and oxygen tanks/tubing, ensuring that equipment is decontaminated and in good working condition before each procedure.
  • Apply basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and principles of growth and development as required to assist in anesthesia preparation/supply selection.
  • Assist in the transfer, positioning, prepping, and draping of patients for anesthetic procedures by facility standards, and assist with the placement of non-invasive monitoring devices, such as blood pressure cuff, EKG leads, and pulse oximeter probe.
  • Assist with higher-level patient prep, such as intubation or invasive line placement/monitoring, once competency/certification is confirmed and as governed by local, state, and federal regulation and per facility policy.
  • Assist Anesthesiologist during scheduled and emergent procedures as directed, including monitoring of vital signs or retrieving needed equipment and supplies.
  • Follow department procedures for proper procurement and handling of non-controlled medications, I.V. fluids, contrast media, and irrigating fluids in the surgical services area.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills when interacting with patients, family members, physicians, and co-workers, utilizing appropriate chains of command to communicate pertinent information.
  • Contribute to performance improvement initiatives and work toward meeting and exceeding core measures, patient safety, and service excellence goals.
  • Serve as a positive role model and resource for peers, sharing knowledge with team members and ensuring new processes, equipment, policies/procedures, etc. are communicated to the team promptly.
  • Assist in the hiring process by participating in the peer interview process, and develop orientation manual and assist with orientation of new personnel.

Requirements

  • 3 years of experience as an Anesthesia Technologist in an operating room or critical care environment.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification - preferred.
  • Anesthesia Tech license from ASATT - preferred.
