Position Overview

SAIC is seeking a Quality Assurance Software Engineer to contribute to our Aircraft Launch and Recovery Equipment (ALRE) Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) and Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG) initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

The role involves designing, developing, documenting, testing, and debugging software applications and systems that necessitate low-level control processing, including interrupts, timers, digital I/O, and serial communication protocols for electronic, electro-mechanical, or electro-optic devices. The engineer will create embedded software for real-time and near real-time operating systems and processors, which may include networking and radio systems. A fundamental understanding of complex electronic assembly schematics is essential.

Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams is crucial, as the engineer will work alongside equipment designers and hardware engineers to plan, design, develop, and utilize electronic data processing systems for both product and commercial software. Responsibilities also include assessing user needs, analyzing system capabilities to troubleshoot issues related to program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques, and controls. The engineer will prepare operating instructions and design and develop compilers, assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems, ensuring compliance with software standards.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or Computer Science (Electrical Engineering with a strong software skill set is acceptable)
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Software Engineer, with 7 years preferred
  • Proficiency in Software Quality Assurance (SQA) throughout the development lifecycle
  • Active Secret clearance is mandatory

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with complex embedded real-time systems
  • Background in developing mission-critical and/or safety-critical software
  • Familiarity with software development for Windows/.Net and/or Red Hat environments
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages/environments: C, C++, C#, VHDL, PLC Ladder Logic
