Position Overview:
The Aquatic Safety Specialist is accountable for ensuring secure swimming conditions in the aquatic environment, including the pool, deck, and adjacent areas. This role involves responding to emergencies in line with YMCA protocols and may include assisting with swim instruction as required.

Key Responsibilities:
- Maintains vigilant observation of the aquatic area.
- Ensures safety by communicating and enforcing pool regulations.
- Identifies hazardous conditions and verifies the availability of safety equipment.
- Completes necessary incident and accident documentation.
- Records and maintains accurate logs, including pool chemical levels and supplies.
- Adds chemicals to the pool as needed.
- Upholds cleanliness by adhering to and documenting proper sanitation protocols.
- Assists in setting up and storing equipment and supports colleagues with event preparations.
- Regularly practices rescue and fitness drills.
- Promotes aquatic programs and other YMCA initiatives.
- Shares suggestions for enhancing the aquatic facility.
- Must be at least 15 years old.
- Currently possess or be willing to obtain certification for the following:
- Professional rescuer, First Aid, and Lifeguard Certification from the YMCA or Red Cross.
Certification prerequisites include CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and a current Lifeguard certification through the YMCA or Red Cross.
Successful completion of the physical competency assessment includes: a 250-yard swim utilizing various strokes, underwater swimming for 15 feet, treading water for 2 minutes, performing compressions after diving to the pool's bottom and swimming 25 yards, and exiting the pool without assistance.
