About the Role: The Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a skilled Food Service Worker to join our team in Wilmington, DE. In this role, you will play a critical part in ensuring that our patients receive high-quality care and nutrition services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Food Preparation: Prepare and cook meals according to established recipes and guidelines, ensuring that all food is presented in a clean and attractive manner.
- Patient Interaction: Interact with patients and their families in a respectful and compassionate manner, responding to their needs and concerns.
- Cleaning and Sanitation: Maintain a clean and sanitary environment in the kitchen and dining areas, adhering to strict health and safety standards.
- Supply Management: Manage inventory levels and orders for food, supplies, and equipment, minimizing waste and optimizing resource allocation.
- Teamwork: Collaborate with colleagues to achieve departmental goals and objectives, demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and a positive attitude.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree preferred
- Previous experience in food service or hospitality industry; training or certification in food safety and sanitation a plus
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with diverse populations
- Basic math skills and ability to accurately manage cash and credit transactions
- Familiarity with commercial cooking equipment and techniques
