ROLE OF SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER
The Essex County Vocational School District is in search of a dedicated Social Worker to join our team for the academic year.
Purpose of the Role
- Under the leadership of the Superintendent, we are seeking a committed and qualified full-time School Social Worker. This vital role is focused on enhancing the social and emotional health of students, thereby contributing to their academic achievement and personal growth. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in cultivating a supportive school atmosphere through individual and group counseling, performing assessments, and working collaboratively with educators, families, and community organizations.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Social Work with appropriate state licensure and certification.
- Thorough knowledge of the NJ State Special Education Code and current best practices in school social work.
- Experience in conducting social and emotional evaluations and applying evidence-based interventions.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with Child Study Teams and other educational professionals to assist students with varied needs.
- Completion of a criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal residency.
- Lead the district's mindfulness initiative.
- Provide mental health support and guidance to staff.
- Advance district initiatives on mental health topics such as cultural diversity, social justice, and clinical intervention strategies.
- Serve as a resource for administrators and educators, offering consultation and training on identifying students with mental health needs.
- Integrate mental health, behavioral, and academic support services within the district.
- Demonstrate expertise in understanding family and community systems to connect students and families with essential community services.
- Design and implement programs to foster a positive school climate.
- Identify students requiring intensive interventions and facilitate connections to community services.
- Support all at-risk students and collaborate with educators to ensure coordinated interventions.
Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and central office administrators.
Employment Terms
This is a full-time position for 10 months of the year, governed by the collective bargaining agreement with the Essex County Vocational Education Association.
Compensation
Contractual rate with benefits including medical, dental, and life insurance.
