Job Title: Pediatric APRN - Part Time

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pediatric Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (APRN) to join our team at KU Wichita Medical Practice Association. As a Pediatric APRN, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality medical care to pediatric patients in our hospital setting.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will work in conjunction with our pediatric faculty to provide medical care for pediatric patients in our hospital's pediatric units, with possible coverage to our pediatric faculty clinic. You will be responsible for performing a range of duties, including:

  • Providing medical care to pediatric patients, including performing physical examinations, ordering and interpreting laboratory and radiographic studies, and developing plans of care.
  • Collaborating with our pediatric faculty to discuss and review patient care plans.
  • Participating in daily formal presentations of patient problems, evaluation, and plan of care with the attending pediatrician and resident team.
  • Providing additional brief updates and presentations to the attending and/or resident team as new problems arise.
  • Completing all billing and medical records documentation within thirty (30) business days of the patient visit or less time if required by an insurance company, other payor of services, or the hospital or institution at which you are performing services.
Responsibilities:

As a Pediatric APRN, you will be responsible for:

  • Obtaining necessary prenatal, intrapartum, and/or post-natal history as well as a history of present illness and other components of a history when applicable to enable care to be given.
  • Performing necessary procedures or therapies to ensure stabilization.
  • Performing admission physical examinations and initiating and/or completing all necessary forms to document and facilitate care.
  • Formulating patient care diagnoses and goals based upon physical assessment, historical data, laboratory and radiographic studies.
  • Developing plans of care based on diagnoses and goals (long and short) in collaboration with the attending physician.
  • Ordering and interpreting laboratory, radiographic, and other diagnostic data.
  • Performing diagnostic procedures, including vein or artery puncture and lumbar puncture.
  • Initiating, continuing, and directing support of the respiratory system, including oxygen therapy and drug therapy.
  • Selecting and instituting fluid, blood products, and/or nutritional support as clinically necessary.
  • Monitoring for infection and instituting necessary therapy.
  • Establishing contact with family and sharing responsibility with the attending physician for communicating patient problems, status, and plans.
  • Assessing level of understanding and emotional status to provide appropriate communication, information, and emotional support.
  • Along with others, initiating discharge-planning process.
  • Documenting in medical chart activities, events, procedures undertaken or completed, and responses occurring during the hospital stay.
  • Continuing contact with referring hospital and referring physician to update both staff and parents.
  • Initiating or attending meetings related to patient care.
  • Continuing bedside education process for nursing staff and other caregivers as it relates to patient care needs.
Requirements:

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A Master's Degree and/or Certificate training in Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (APRN) program.
  • Two to four years of pediatric experience preferred.
  • Active RN and APRN licensure in the state of Kansas.
  • Computer skills, including ability to adapt to EMR functions and electronic patient charting.
