Position Summary
The Patient Access Representative plays a crucial role in ensuring a positive experience for patients and their families. This position is responsible for greeting patients and visitors with professionalism, whether in person or over the phone. Key responsibilities include:
  • Facilitating the appointment scheduling and check-in processes for patients.
  • Collecting and verifying essential identification and demographic information for accurate medical records.
  • Ensuring confidentiality of patient information while managing point-of-service collections.
  • Conducting insurance verifications through various methods to ensure coverage and eligibility.
  • Enhancing patient satisfaction by maintaining a professional demeanor and being cross-trained in multiple functions.

Qualifications
Education:
  • Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred: Associate's degree.

Experience:
  • Required: At least one year of experience in a related field such as healthcare, customer service, or financial counseling.

Certifications:
  • Preferred: Certifications in Healthcare Access Manager (CHAM), Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA), or as a Medical Assistant.

Skills and Abilities:
Successful candidates will possess:
  • Proficiency in computer skills for data entry and information retrieval.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle high-stress situations with professionalism.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of healthcare insurance processes and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to patients and their families.
  • Manage the patient scheduling and registration processes efficiently.
  • Ensure all necessary documentation is completed accurately.
  • Gather and input patient demographic and financial information while explaining insurance benefits.
  • Perform financial assessments and communicate responsibilities to patients.
  • Maintain cash drawer accuracy and prepare deposits as required.
  • Foster positive relationships with colleagues and contribute to a collaborative work environment.

Physical and Environmental Demands:
This role may require lifting and moving objects weighing up to 100 pounds and working in a patient care environment with potential exposure to communicable diseases.
