Senior Medical Technologist

The University of Miami is seeking a highly skilled Senior Medical Technologist to join our team in the Department of Pathology. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for verifying identification of specimens, preparing samples for testing, and handling all specimens with care and precision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze test results, interpret abnormal or unusual findings, and research patient data to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
- Calibrate equipment, order supplies, and maintain inventory of relevant forms and materials to ensure laboratory efficiency.
- Administer quality-control tests, maintain data recording, and assume lead duties to support laboratory staff.
- Orient and train employees on laboratory techniques and operations, and evaluate the quality and appropriateness of patient test results.
- Demonstrate the ability to coordinate and prioritize simultaneous series of tests with complete accuracy, and prioritize all STAT work.
- Maintain records that demonstrate proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
- Perform daily, weekly, and periodic maintenance as scheduled and properly document.
- Maintain adequate inventory levels as per protocol, and rotate previous stock when applicable.
- Assist in the maintenance of hardware by changing paper, labels, and/or printer ribbons as necessary.
- Contact the Biomedical department if equipment requires service.
- Work on projects assigned by Supervisor/Manager, and adhere to all Administration, Environmental of Care, CHP, Safety, Infection Control, and Laboratory policies and procedures.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
- Possession of a current Florida State Medical Technologist License in Hematology, Chemistry, Immunohematology, Immunology, and Microbiology.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
- Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
- Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
- Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
- Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
