The Lead Ultrasound Specialist is responsible for overseeing and directing a team of skilled ultrasound technicians dedicated to providing exceptional care for pediatric and perinatal patients. This role collaborates closely with various healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for ultrasound examinations and assist physicians as needed.
- Clearly explain procedures to patients prior to testing, ensuring they understand the process and providing relevant education about medical ultrasound.
- Obtain necessary consents and ensure patient confidentiality is maintained throughout the process.
- Conduct ultrasonic diagnostic procedures, accurately recording anatomical, pathological, and physiological data for physician interpretation.
- Support physicians during invasive procedures that require ultrasound guidance.
- Maintain and operate ultrasound equipment, identifying and addressing any malfunctions, and coordinating necessary maintenance.
- Ensure compliance with established ultrasound guidelines and standards.
- Oversee the ultrasound scheduling process and maintain an organized work environment.
- Participate in the training and orientation of new ultrasound technicians, as well as conducting annual performance reviews.
- Engage in continuous professional development through workshops and educational activities.
- Current certification in diagnostic ultrasound is required.
- Completion of an Allied Health Educational Program with at least two years of experience in ultrasonography.
- A minimum of two years in a supervisory role is preferred.
- Eligibility for certification from the American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer.
- CPR Certification is mandatory.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficient in operating ultrasound equipment and managing emergency situations effectively.
- Knowledge of safety hazards and the ability to maintain a safe working environment.
