Position Summary:

The Manufacturing Process Specialist will collaborate with the Production Manager and the Engineering team to facilitate plant-wide improvements and strategic planning initiatives. The role involves gathering critical data to provide informed recommendations for process enhancements. Prioritization of process improvements will be key, focusing on those that yield significant results with minimal effort. The Specialist will explore new refining techniques to identify improvements that can reduce precious metal inventories, lower operational costs, and enhance safety protocols. Additionally, the role requires working closely with operators and supervisors to develop current state value stream maps, executing minor engineering modifications, and supporting larger engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research to innovate and refine manufacturing processes.
  • Oversee the rollout of new systems and methodologies.
  • Collaborate with Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) to establish safety protocols for handling hazardous materials.
  • Perform tests and monitor the effectiveness of processes throughout production.
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing process issues and implement necessary adjustments.
  • Design, develop, and execute new and improved manufacturing processes.
  • Assess processes and equipment to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

Qualifications:

*Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Chemical or Mechanical preferred).

*Experience in a production or research environment.

*Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel and Project).

*Background in metals is required; experience with Platinum Group Metals is a plus.

Essential Skills:

  • Ability to think mechanically and explore innovative solutions to challenges.
  • Capacity to work independently in a laboratory setting with fundamental lab skills for research and process development.
  • Understanding of chemical engineering principles (e.g., energy and material mass balances) and inorganic chemistry, with the ability to apply these concepts to complex production challenges.
  • Hands-on experience collaborating with operators to understand existing processes for effective troubleshooting and enhancements.
  • Ability to design and plan equipment layouts.
  • Evaluate equipment and processes to ensure adherence to safety and environmental regulations.
  • Schedule and coordinate projects to meet deadlines and budgetary constraints.
  • Fundamental knowledge of process instrumentation and automation.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with Platinum Group Metals (PGM).
