Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Attorney-Advisor to join our team at the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). As an Attorney-Advisor, you will provide legal advice and representation to OPM leaders on a wide range of issues related to government-wide policies, oversight, and programs that support Federal employees, retirees, and family members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal counsel on Federal employee health insurance, compensation, retirement, and other issues involving programs that serve over 8 million Federal employees, retirees, and family members.
  • Represent the Agency in important and sensitive litigation, supporting the Department of Justice in Federal courts.
  • Perform a wide variety of duties, including legal research, analysis, and decision-making in compressed timeframes.
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Must be suitable for Federal employment, determined by a background investigation.
  • Must be an active member in good standing of the Bar of a State, Territory of the United States, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or the District of Columbia.
Qualifications

Applicants must have a J.D. from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association and meet the qualifications for the GS-11 or GS-12 level, depending on their level of experience.

Preferred qualifications include experience with the Federal Employee Health Benefits program, strong oral and written communication skills, and the ability to provide excellent customer service and exercise sound judgment and decision-making in challenging situations.
