Job Title: Estimator (Electrical Construction)

Job Summary:

Pieper Houston Electric is seeking an experienced Estimator to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing accurate and timely estimates for construction projects, working closely with operations managers, project managers, and estimators to ensure the company's growth and success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop detailed estimates for commercial projects, including reviewing drawings and specifications, scheduling and duration of the project, material and labor requirements, and miscellaneous costs.
  • Maintain a Backlog Report and Award Status Report of all estimated projects.
  • Participate in forecasting exercises with Operations Manager, Project Management, and Estimators to ensure necessary backlog and desired growth are achieved.
  • Utilize company estimating tools and perform detailed material and labor takeoffs from drawings, concepts, and/or bill of materials to prepare job estimates.
  • Review all front-end documents and specifications, seek clarification as necessary, submit RFIs when required, perform take-offs, and price all materials, identify and price outsourced items, and assist in estimating all labor hours.
  • Once a project is awarded, participate in turnover meetings with Project Management and Job Foreman to relay proper project information, documents, and planning to help the project be performed as smoothly as possible.
  • Identify accurate estimates of materials, equipment, and labor for a project.
  • Assist and/or complete problem-solving for any issue that arises due to conflict between scope of work and estimate.
  • Collect and analyze cost data from past and current projects for cost history database.
  • Identify cost trends to assist management in cost reduction and process improvement efforts.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field and 2 years of estimating experience; OR equivalent experience in electrical construction industry and estimating experience in lieu of education.
  • Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or other qualification will be a plus.
  • At least 1 year in electrical or construction estimating.
  • Knowledgeable in all current electrical codes and how to verify work is completed accordingly.
  • Experience working on commercial, industrial, and/or institutional projects.
  • Knowledge of electrical construction principles, construction estimating, cost controls, and subcontract administration.
  • Working knowledge of cost controls and subcontract administration.
  • Ability to read architectural plans/blueprints, understand specifications, and other bid documents.
  • Ability to research and recall local city and county code requirements for interior packages.
  • Ability to manage assigned projects, workflow, and resources to ensure proposals are delivered on-time.
  • Experience in take-offs.
