Position Overview:The Pharmacy Operations Manager is responsible for the strategic planning, organization, and oversight of all pharmaceutical and financial functions within the pharmacy. This role ensures adherence to the established policies and procedures of WellStar Health System, as well as compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing pharmacy practice. The Pharmacy Operations Manager operates under the guidance of the Director of Pharmacy Services and plays a key role in the development of policies aimed at enhancing departmental efficiency and effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities:
Management and Execution of Daily Pharmacy Operations, including:
- Supervision of the preparation of various medications such as liquids, ointments, and tablets
- Verification of prescriptions for accuracy in dosage and potential drug interactions
- Compounding and labeling of prescribed medications
- Storage and preservation of sensitive medications including vaccines and serums
- Dispensing of medical products as directed
- Documentation of prescriptions dispensed, including controlled substances
- Providing expert advice on medication usage and effects
- Selling over-the-counter products and related supplies
- Interpreting and processing physician prescriptions daily
- Ensuring accuracy of patient information prior to dispensing
- Offering medicinal consultations for both prescription and OTC medications
- Entering prescriptions into the pharmacy database
- Liaising with healthcare providers and insurance companies as needed
- Completing necessary third-party insurance documentation
- Maintaining a professional and confidential environment for all customers
- Compounding medications as required
- Supervising pharmacy staff in their daily responsibilities.
- Developing work schedules to ensure adequate staffing levels as approved by management.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Oversight of Controlled Substance management, including audits and documentation
- Ensuring compliance with all relevant federal and state regulations regarding pharmacy practice
- Management of outdated narcotics and ensuring proper return procedures are followed.
Education and Communication:
- Collaborating with prescribers and nursing staff to enhance service delivery and patient care
- Promoting the benefits of pharmacy services to both staff and patients through a positive and professional demeanor.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education:
B.S. Degree from an accredited School of Pharmacy.
Licenses and Certifications:
Current Pharmacist License required upon hire.
Experience:
Familiarity with computerized pharmacy systems and comprehensive knowledge of pharmacy operations is preferred.
Skills:
Strong leadership abilities, effective communication skills, and a customer-focused approach are essential. The ability to work independently and make informed decisions is also required.
