Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Accountant on a contract basis with a hybrid work model in Virginia. The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of accounting functions, ensuring compliance with industry standards and delivering accurate financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough accounting tasks, including the review and analysis of financial statements, ledgers, reconciliations, and related accounts to guarantee adherence to industry standards.
- Oversee monthly closing procedures, ensuring accurate entries in the Trial Balance, Balance Sheet, and Income Statement accounts, along with necessary adjustments.
- Execute account reconciliations, perform analytics and variance analysis, and provide comprehensive supporting documentation.
- Utilize extensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Accounting Standard Codification (ASC) in the preparation of financial statements.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and ASC in the preparation of financial statements.
- Identify and recommend solutions for instances of incorrect application of GAAP/ASC, including quantifying impacts.
- Conduct detailed analyses to identify and resolve discrepancies, contributing to quality control and process enhancements.
- Investigate and resolve complex discrepancies, data entry errors, and imbalances, presenting recommendations for immediate action or policy adjustments.
- Assist with inquiries from internal and external auditors through thorough research.
- Perform variance analysis and generate detailed reports with justifications.
- Apply specialized knowledge and experience in financial accounting and management, with a solid understanding of financial information analysis and reporting techniques.
- Complete additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience in public or private accounting, adept at applying complex accounting treatments and resolving intricate accounting issues.
- Proficient in researching technical accounting matters and making informed recommendations for the application of accounting principles.
- Strong experience with data querying, research, and reporting.
- Experience collaborating on complex projects with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to clearly and concisely present findings and conclusions.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
- Possession of a Certified Public Accountant designation and a minimum of five years of relevant experience.
- Exceptional ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with high accuracy.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Expertise in maintaining accuracy and attention to detail while meeting deadlines.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to validate the accuracy and relevance of underlying data.
- Proven skill in presenting complex financial information in a clear and concise manner.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
