About the Position:

Job Summary:

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to join the Yavapai County team as an Environmental Health Specialist II. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring that our community meets the highest standards of environmental health and safety.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough inspections of assigned areas and settings to identify potential health and safety hazards.
  • Apply federal, state, and local codes and regulations to ensure compliance and provide recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Prepare and present written reports to stakeholders, including government agencies and the public.
  • Monitor the presence of hazardous pollutants and identify potential threats to public health and the environment.
  • Investigate environmental health complaints and provide guidance to licensed and non-licensed facilities.
  • Conduct plan reviews and inspections of food, pool, school, and lodging establishments to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Work collaboratively with other agencies to ensure cooperation and compliance with federal, state, and local codes and regulations.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in the field of Environmental Health or a related field.
  • Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license.
  • Must possess a Registered Sanitarian license in the State of Arizona.
  • Must possess a State of Arizona Pesticide Applicator License in the General Pest Control/Public Health category within six months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of environmental health practices and theory.
  • Knowledge of relevant federal, state, and county codes, laws, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of environmental health inspections, public education, compliance, and enforcement.
  • Knowledge of basic biological and physical sciences applicable to environmental health.
  • Knowledge of business English, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and composition.
  • Knowledge of clerical office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of research techniques and report writing.
  • Knowledge of current Microsoft Office software.
  • Knowledge of filing and recordkeeping.
Physical Requirements:

The ideal candidate will be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time, have sufficient vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and have the ability to communicate effectively in-person and telephonically. The candidate should also be capable of frequent repetitive movement of arms, fingers, and wrists, and be able to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, walk over rough, uneven, and/or rocky surfaces, and lift up to 30 pounds.
