Position Overview:
The Hospice Acupuncture Specialist is responsible for delivering care in accordance with a medically prescribed treatment plan aimed at alleviating pain and managing symptoms, thereby enhancing the quality of life for patients in hospice care.

Collaboration:
This role requires collaboration with the hospice interdisciplinary team to implement non-pharmacological strategies for pain and symptom relief within the hospice environment.

Accountability:
This position reports directly to the Director of Nursing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Exhibit a comprehensive understanding of the agency's mission, philosophy, and service scope.

  • Foster effective working relationships with co-workers, patients, families, caregivers, and community professionals.
  • Demonstrate reliability by adhering to work schedules and providing timely notifications for absences.
  • Utilize problem-solving skills to assess situations and implement solutions promptly.
  • Maintain professionalism in all interactions with employees, patients, families, and community members.
  • Manage time effectively to maximize productivity and efficiency, adjusting schedules as necessary.
  • Participate in Performance Improvement initiatives as required.
  • Work independently and collaboratively within the interdisciplinary team framework.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards.
  • Engage in ongoing personal development and continuing education.
  • Document patient responses to treatment accurately in electronic medical records.

Specific Duties:
Follow individualized Plans of Care established by the interdisciplinary team for each patient. Report any changes to the RN Case Manager and the team. Conduct assessments and evaluations to develop a plan for acupuncture treatment, incorporating it into the patient's care plan. Select acupuncture points to address symptoms and promote relaxation. Review patient conditions and medical histories for appropriate Chinese medical diagnoses. Recommend essential oils as part of the treatment plan.

Patient Interaction:
Administer high-quality acupuncture care as approved by the Chief Medical Officer or Hospice Physician. Provide massage therapy treatments as authorized. Guide patients through interventions aimed at alleviating symptoms such as anxiety, depression, pain, and limited mobility. Educate patients, families, and caregivers on the benefits of acupuncture for pain and symptom management.

Physical and Safety Requirements:
Participate in emergency procedures and operate equipment safely. Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment as necessary. Maintain the physical stamina required for the role, including the ability to move throughout the workday and manage various physical demands.

Qualifications:
Must possess an active acupuncture license in the State of Oregon and board certification in good standing by NCCAOM. Current CPR and First Aid certifications are required. Proficiency in English is essential. Reliable transportation and auto insurance are necessary. Candidates must successfully complete a background check.
