Position Overview:
The Hospice Acupuncture Specialist delivers care in alignment with a medically prescribed care plan, aimed at alleviating pain and managing symptoms to improve the quality of life for patients in hospice care.

Collaboration:
This role involves working closely with the hospice interdisciplinary team to implement non-pharmacological approaches for pain and symptom relief in a compassionate setting.

Accountability:
This position reports directly to the Director of Nursing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • General Duties:
    Understand and embody the agency's mission, philosophy, and scope of services. Maintain patient privacy, confidentiality, and safety, while reporting any instances of abuse or neglect.
  • Professionalism:
    Demonstrate reliability by adhering to work schedules and notifying appropriate personnel of any absences. Engage in problem-solving and decision-making by assessing situations and resolving issues promptly.
  • Teamwork:
    Foster effective working relationships with co-workers, patients, families, and other professionals. Participate actively in interdisciplinary team meetings and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Patient Care:
    Follow individualized care plans established by the interdisciplinary team, reporting any changes to the RN Case Manager. Provide interventions related to terminal illness and loss within the scope of practice.
  • Acupuncture Services:
    Conduct assessments and evaluations to create a tailored acupuncture plan, selecting points to alleviate symptoms and promote relaxation. Administer acupuncture and massage therapy as approved by the Chief Medical Officer or Hospice Physician.
  • Education:
    Instruct patients, families, and caregivers on the benefits of acupuncture for pain and symptom management, ensuring clear communication and support.
  • Documentation:
    Accurately document patient responses to treatment in electronic medical records and facilitate communication among the patient, family, and hospice team.

Physical and Safety Requirements:
Participate in emergency procedures and operate equipment safely, reporting any safety violations. Maintain the physical stamina required for the role, including the ability to move throughout the workday.

Qualifications:
Active acupuncture license in the State of Oregon, board certification in good standing by NCCAOM, and current CPR and First Aid certification are required. Must possess reliable transportation and maintain auto insurance. Successful completion of a background check is mandatory.
