Criminal Defense Attorney

The Legal Aid Society is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Criminal Defense Attorney to fill the role of Arraignment Supervising Attorney. This position requires a strong understanding of criminal and constitutional law, as well as excellent leadership and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise and coordinate the provision of client services in the Criminal Court Night arraignment part.
- Monitor and distribute CDP arraignment case attorney intake, as well as conflict cases to other providers.
- Assist attorneys in addressing substantive issues of cases to be arraigned, including troubleshooting over 24-hour arrest to arraignment time cases and unusual volume of online arrest cases to be arraigned.
- Attend regularly scheduled stakeholder meetings with external agencies.
- Monitor physical conditions of both courtrooms and holding areas.
- Prepare daily arraignment reports.
- Minimum of five years as a criminal defense attorney.
- Felony certified for a minimum of three years prior to applying.
- Comprehensive knowledge of criminal and constitutional law, statutory interpretation, and ethical principles contained in the Code of Professional Responsibility.
- Ability to collaborate with external stakeholders.
- Superior oral and written advocacy skills and organizational skills.
The Legal Aid Society offers a generous benefits package, including health insurance, paid vacation, disability, and life insurance, as well as a salary range of $99,444 to $163,507. Additionally, the organization is a qualified employer for the purposes of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program.
This position allows an employee to take advantage of PSLF and other State and Federal loan forgiveness programs. Employees who are New York residents may also be eligible for assistance from New York state to assist with loan repayments, depending on years of practice.
