Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Banquet Captain to join our team. As a Banquet Captain, you will be responsible for managing the banquet servers, bartenders, and event set-up staff and operations during banquets and other hotel events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up for functions to include draping tables, setting silverware, folding napkins, preparing drinks, and putting out table centerpieces
  • Service to include picking up food from the back hall, carrying trays to the function location, serving food, and clearing the food from the tables
  • Assist as needed with event room setup according to meal period and table needs
  • Perform food and beverage preparation duties such as preparing condiments, brewing coffee, and ensuring workstations are stocked
  • Explain how various menu items are prepared, cooking methods, and ingredients
  • Take into special consideration for any special requests, allergies, and dietary issues listed on the BEO
  • Provide general property information and offer a warm and sincere welcome/farewell for all guests
  • Interact with staff in a professional manner, assisting event staff and other departments with necessary information
  • Ensure final quality check on food and beverage items prior to serving guests
  • Monitor assigned tables for customer satisfaction, quality, and additional service
  • Address any guest issue promptly and with high concern, and immediately inform the kitchen and manager
  • Follow sanitary rules and food safety regulations
  • Complete ongoing required training and development to maximize potential
  • Follow company procedures and follow required best practices and exceed brand standards
  • Maintain constant awareness of safety issues, such as broken glass, frayed electrical cords, leaks, broken locks, and suspicious persons

Requirements:

  • Bilingual: Ability to speak, hear, and comprehend instructions in both Spanish and English language
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to convey information and ideas clearly to staff and guests alike
  • Ability to thrive in high-pressure environments and respond with a sense of urgency when necessary
  • Moves about the hotel and banquet areas, including but not limited to, ballrooms, salons, meeting rooms, and pavilions, for the duration of an 8-hour shift
  • Extend arms; frequent reaching, twisting, pulling, bending, and stooping, and moving up to 50 lbs. to perform essential job functions
  • Repeatedly ascend/descend stairs, moving server trays and glassware up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to observe and adhere to all Health and Safety regulations and company guidelines for food handling, cross-contamination protocols, and sanitation
  • Knowledge of key guest service behaviors
  • Enjoy working with others - this position not only interfaces daily with hotel guests and team members in banquets, but with the kitchen, engineering, guest relations, sales, and many different hotel associates

Experience:

  • Previous banquet captain experience
  • Licenses or Certificates: Ability to provide or obtain the Texas Food Safety Handler Certificate and the Texas TABC Certification License
