Job Summary

The City of Reno is seeking a highly skilled Paramedic (Non-Suppression) to join our team. As a key member of the Reno Fire Department, you will provide emergency medical services, including medical assessments, primary and advanced life support treatment, and transportation of patients to appropriate treatment facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency medical calls for service, providing life support functions as indicated.
  • Drive and operate ambulances and other department vehicles safely, in accordance with established department and emergency driving guidelines.
  • Provide an exemplary, safe, professional demeanor at all times, maintaining confidentiality of medical information subject to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Maintain currency of all required certifications and licenses, including AHA BLS, ACLS, and PALS Provider certifications.
  • Participate in vehicle, station, and equipment maintenance and cleanup activities, checking assigned vehicle(s) and equipment to ensure response readiness.
  • Assist staff/employees/others in delivering medical care, working overtime as required.
Requirements
  • Be at least 18 years of age at the time of appointment.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of one-year full-time experience working as a non-probationary Paramedic with a transporting ALS (advanced life support) system responding to a minimum of 1000 calls per year.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
  • Possession of current, valid Nevada Paramedic certification or National Registry Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Paramedic certification.
  • Ability to obtain a Nevada Ambulance Attendant license.
Working Environment

The Paramedic (Non-Suppression) will work in a fast-paced outdoor field environment, exposed to various weather and temperature conditions, hazardous traffic conditions, and potentially hazardous chemicals and gases. The position requires sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a field environment, including walking, standing, and sitting for prolonged periods, and lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling moderate to heavy amounts of weight.
