Physical and Other Requirements

Positions in this classification typically require various physical activities, including but not limited to: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, and repetitive motions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum age of 20 years.
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Valid NC or SC Driver's License or ability to obtain one.
  • No felony convictions or serious misdemeanor offenses.
  • No DWI or DUI convictions in the past five years.
  • Successful completion of an entry-level written examination.
  • Successful completion of an entry-level physical ability assessment.
  • Ability to wear a gas mask and pass an OSHA fit test.
  • Successful completion of a thorough background investigation.
  • Honorable discharge from military service, if applicable.
  • Approval by the Civil Service Board.
  • Normal color vision.
  • Minimum corrected visual acuity of 20/30 binocularly.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening test.

Compensation

The starting salary for this entry-level position is $51,465, with additional incentives of 5% for an Associate's degree and 10% for a Bachelor's degree.

Employment Conditions

The City of Charlotte mandates background checks for all final candidates applying for positions. These checks may include reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal record checks, and, if applicable, credit history checks.

Candidates must pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical examination. Additional assessments may be required during the selection process.
