Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Upfit Assembly Technician to join our team at Cummins Inc. in Des Moines (Ankeny), IA. As an Upfit Assembly Technician, you will play a crucial role in the installation of value-added components to loose engines and generators, ensuring they meet customer requirements and design specifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install value-added components to loose engines and generators, adhering to customer requirements and design specifications.
  • Perform light production assembly, including drilling, bolting, and light fabrication.
  • Interpret basic installation drawings and work collaboratively with the team to accomplish installations.
  • Read and interpret detailed equipment and part diagrams/prints, including 2D and 3D drawings, of Cummins and OEM products, and verify torque values referenced from established engineered guidelines.
  • Conduct general shop maintenance, including inspecting extension cords, replacing air lines, and performing daily JSA (Job Safety Analysis) reports, welder inspections, and daily time sheets.
Requirements
  • Requires some work experience or intermediate level knowledge obtained through education, training, or on-the-job experience.
  • Ability to work in an automotive shop/manufacturing setting and use power tools to remove/install external diesel engine and generator components.
  • Mechanical knowledge, automotive repair, and assembly experience preferred.
  • Ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, have excellent time management skills, and intermediate level computer skills.
  • Must be able to physically lift 50 pounds occasionally and wear required personal protective equipment as needed.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience to the extent such experience meets applicable regulations.
  • This position does not require any Department of Transportation (DOT) related pre-screenings.
Compensation and Benefits

Base salary rate commensurate with experience.
