Job Summary:

YAI is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher - Academic to join our team. As a Special Education Teacher - Academic, you will be responsible for overseeing a classroom of school-aged children with brain-based disabilities and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and document annual academic goals for students and compile quarterly progress reports.
  • Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) process, including IEP meetings and team meetings.
  • Communicate and collaborate with parents on a regular basis and involve them in their child's activities and progress.
  • Provide direction, support, and supervision to paraprofessionals, teacher assistants, and/or Associate Special Education Teachers in the classroom.

Requirements:

  • Current certification and registration as a Teacher of Students with Disabilities (grades B-2, 1-6, 7-12, and/or All Grades) or Permanent Special Education Certification, issued by the New York State Education Department.
  • Bachelor's degree in education or a closely related field and active pursuit of a master's level education in a New York State Registered Program for Special Education Teacher's Certificate (or equivalent).
  • Highly flexible personality type.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in special education.
  • Current NYS certification and registration as a teacher in special education (Students with Disabilities, Permanent in Special Education, etc.).
  • Previous experience working with school-aged children with special needs.
