As a
Special Education Teacher, you will design, implement, and oversee the educational process for students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) within the learning center and/or classroom. This includes, but is not limited to, delivering instruction, utilizing curriculum materials and educational software, and creating daily lesson plans and classroom schedules that align with state and school standards while addressing the physical, emotional, and educational needs of each student.
- Fostering a collaborative atmosphere for students, parents, center staff, and administrative personnel.
- Creating a classroom environment that is firm, fair, and respectful, emphasizing social development and group accountability by modeling and reinforcing positive behaviors as outlined in the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program.
- Documenting student progress, maintaining student records, and preparing reports on student performance and activities.
- Delivering direct subject-based instruction and/or collaborating in a team environment to co-teach curricular subjects as specified in IEPs.
- Employing a variety of instructional strategies and resources to meet the diverse needs and interests of students, including prescribed educational software and intervention curriculum.
- Acting as a case manager for special education students, which may involve updating IEPs and goals as required by the district.
- Reporting incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) to ensure student safety and compliance with State and Federal regulations.
- Maintaining the learning environment, including furniture and supplies, in an organized and orderly manner according to established procedures.
- Ensuring that the center and surrounding areas are well-maintained, clean, and present a professional atmosphere conducive to student education.
- Responding positively to both formal and informal feedback.
- Performing additional duties as assigned.
‖ Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in education or a related field.
- Fulfillment of all state teaching license and/or certification requirements.
- Current or the ability to obtain a special education certification.
- Previous experience in curriculum development, differentiation, and instruction within a classroom setting.
- Preferred experience in a special education program setting.
- Experience working with individuals with severe learning, emotional, and/or behavioral disorders.
- Familiarity with students holding IEPs.
- Strong motivational, problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
- Proficient in the use of computers and Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
