Senior Security and Compliance Engineer

New York County New York, United States Radar Full time
Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Engineer to spearhead our Security and Compliance initiatives. Our infrastructure supports a vast array of workloads, processing an impressive volume of API calls daily. Given that we handle sensitive location data from mobile devices, the integrity and compliance of our systems are critical. We have made significant investments in this area, yet there remains ample opportunity to enhance our security framework. This role is particularly suited for individuals aspiring to advance to a Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) position in the future.

Technology Stack:
Our infrastructure is hosted on AWS and managed using Terraform.

We utilize AWS Security Hub for comprehensive cloud monitoring, AWS Inspector for vulnerability assessments, and AWS GuardDuty for intrusion detection and malware defense.

Our servers and employee devices are fortified in accordance with CIS benchmarks and secure images.

We employ Snyk and GitHub Advanced Security to monitor our codebase and libraries for vulnerabilities, ensuring timely patches.

Our Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) system is AlienVault, complemented by PagerDuty for alert management.

Most engineers participate in an on-call rotation to address medium and high-severity security alerts.

Employee devices run on macOS, managed through JAMF and JAMF Protect.

We track issues using Linear and manage compliance with Vanta.

Our Penetration Testing and Vulnerability Disclosure Program are conducted by HackerOne.

Work Culture:
Our engineering team primarily consists of former technical co-founders or interns from prestigious institutions.

Engineers at Radar typically fall into one of two categories: those with specialized expertise in a single technology stack or those with diverse skills across multiple stacks.

We emphasize a Multi-Stack approach, recognizing that our engineers may also engage in Mobile or Data engineering.

While expertise in all areas is not mandatory, a willingness to learn and adapt is essential.

We prioritize rapid delivery and customer engagement, valuing feedback as a vital resource for improvement.

Although our communication primarily occurs via Slack, we believe that in-person collaboration at our headquarters accelerates our progress.

Weekly planning sessions occur on Mondays in small groups, utilizing Linear for project management. Each project is overseen by an Engineering lead, an executive, and a Go-to-Market lead.

Engineers are responsible for determining project requirements, engaging with customers, facilitating successful implementations, and ensuring customer satisfaction.

Key Practices:
One of our most valuable practices is 'Walk A Mile,' which encourages team members to empathize with users by experiencing our SDK in real-world scenarios.

We believe in delivering significant results weekly.

Hiring Process:

Following an initial conversation with our CTO, qualified candidates will be invited for an in-person interview at our headquarters.

During this interview, we will collaboratively tackle system design challenges and engage in coding exercises.

You'll also have the opportunity to meet one of our co-founders and delve deeper into our operational methodologies.

Responsibilities:
- Oversee the security and compliance framework of our AWS environment (including Security Groups, IAM, VPC, Flow Logs, SSO, Inspector, Security Hub, GuardDuty, KMS, S3, EC2)
- Respond to customer information security inquiries during sales processes
- Play a pivotal role in our SOC 2 audit and engage in ongoing security and compliance activities throughout the year
- Coordinate our annual third-party penetration testing and vulnerability disclosure program, addressing identified issues
- Participate in weekly compliance meetings to assess organizational compliance
- Manage the lifecycle of security alerts and remediation efforts
- Engage with Radar customers and prospects, gather feedback, and incorporate it into your work to ensure their success

Qualifications:
- Proven experience managing AWS environments with Terraform
- Background as a security or infrastructure engineer
- Strong interest in customer interaction and ensuring their success
- A deep curiosity about technology and the determination to tackle complex challenges

Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a technical co-founder

Collaboration:
- Work closely with the CTO, Director of Engineering, Senior Staff Engineer, and our Customer Success, Sales Engineering, and Sales teams.

Benefits:
- Competitive salary and equity plan
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage with 100% premiums covered
- Generous 401(k) plan with employer matching
- Unlimited paid time off
- Paid parental leave
- Weekly catered meals at our office
- Complimentary CitiBike membership (for eligible locations)
- Monthly fitness reimbursement and wellness programs

Compensation:

The base salary range for this full-time position is between $200,000 - $250,000 per year, with opportunities for performance bonuses and incentives. In addition to cash compensation, we offer a competitive equity plan with stock option grants, providing meaningful ownership in our company as we work together to build a leading organization.
