The CNC Operator plays a crucial role in the manufacturing process by fabricating machined components through the programming, setup, and operation of computer numerical control (CNC) machinery. This position emphasizes adherence to quality and safety protocols, meticulous record-keeping, and the upkeep of tools and materials.
Key Responsibilities- Production Adherence: Follow production timelines by analyzing work orders, technical drawings, engineering specifications, material requirements, and machining parameters while interpreting complex geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
- CNC Operation: Skillfully operate CNC equipment by inputting commands, establishing zero and reference points, and configuring tool registers, offsets, and conditional switches.
- Mathematical Application: Utilize fundamental mathematics, geometry, and trigonometry to assess and calculate machining requirements, employing G-code and/or conversational programming as necessary.
- Machine Setup: Efficiently prepare CNC machines by programming, modifying, installing, and fine-tuning tools, attachments, and components with minimal supervision.
- Material Handling: Safely position raw materials and confirm settings through precise measurements, first-run parts, and sample workpieces, ensuring compliance with international standards.
- Quality Assurance: Monitor part specifications by observing drilling, grooving, cutting, turning, and facing processes. Identify and troubleshoot malfunctions, implementing corrective actions by adjusting programs and replacing worn tools.
- Equipment Maintenance: Conduct regular maintenance on machinery by fulfilling preventive maintenance tasks, adhering to manufacturer guidelines, troubleshooting issues, and promptly reporting repair needs.
- Training and Development: Provide ongoing education and training to fellow machinists on production techniques, programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance practices to ensure uniformity and precision in output.
- Documentation: Maintain operational continuity across shifts by documenting and communicating actions, discrepancies, and ongoing requirements; complete production and quality logs diligently.
