Position Overview:

The Senior Submarine Welding Specialist plays a critical role in the fit-up and welding of structural and piping systems aboard US Naval submarines and vessels, as well as in off-hull fabrication projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute shipboard fit-up and welding of structural and piping systems to support installation, repair, and maintenance operations.
  • Conduct fit-up and welding for off-hull fabrication tasks.
  • Collaborate with mechanics and pipefitters to assist in the fit-up and/or installation of mechanical and piping components.
  • Perform fit-up, welding, installation, repair, and maintenance in accordance with Technical Work Documents (e.g., Quality Assurance Work Books, Maintenance Standards, and Technical Manuals) and related schematics.
  • Document necessary inspections and welding activities in both the Technical Work Document and on associated Objective Quality Evidence Forms.
  • Select and manage welding filler materials, joint designs, and welding machine settings in line with the Technical Work Document and company Quality Assurance Procedures.
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Adhere to all applicable federal, state, local, and company safety regulations during work performance.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in welding operations related to installation, repair, and overhaul on US Naval vessels; or completion of a formal related course of study through a community college, technical or trade school, military training, formal company training program, or apprenticeship.
  • Proficient in SMAW, GTAW, and FCAW welding processes, as well as Direct Energy Arc Process (e.g., Stud Shooting).
  • Experience in structural and pipe welding for various material types (e.g., OSS, HSS, HY-80/100, CRES, CUNI, NICU), including combination welds and various joint designs.
  • Skilled in setting up, operating, and adjusting various welding machines and associated hand/power tools.
  • Submarine experience and familiarity with SUBSAFE, DSS-SOC, and/or LEVEL I systems and components is preferred.
  • Experience in shipyards and ship repair environments.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret Technical Work Documents and drawings.
  • The role requires regular standing, walking, sitting, using hands, reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking, and/or hearing.
  • Frequently required to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalency is mandatory.
  • Candidates must be US Citizens and capable of passing a Criminal Background Check and Drug Screen.
  • A current SECRET Level Security Clearance is essential.
