Position Overview:

The State of Wyoming is seeking skilled candidates for the role of Biological Evidence Analyst within the Biology/DNA Unit of the Division of Criminal Investigation. This role is pivotal in managing and analyzing physical evidence related to criminal cases in a laboratory environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough examinations of evidence to derive forensic conclusions applicable in legal contexts.
  • Prepare detailed written reports summarizing forensic analyses and findings for judicial proceedings.
  • Engage in the identification and comparison of various types of evidence related to criminal investigations.
  • Perform routine examinations and investigations under supervision to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Utilize effective case management strategies to meet deadlines associated with cases and court requirements.
  • Provide expert forensic insights to legal professionals, aiding in the formulation of questions for witnesses.
  • Deliver testimony in court as required, supporting the findings of forensic analyses.
  • Participate in quality assurance and control processes within the Biology/DNA Unit.
  • Review technical reports generated by colleagues, ensuring adherence to established standards.
  • Conduct fieldwork at crime scenes to collect and analyze evidence as necessary.

Qualifications:

Applicants should possess a Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or a related forensic science discipline, complemented by coursework in biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, and statistics/population genetics. Candidates with 0-2 years of relevant experience in a forensic laboratory setting are preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Understanding of biological principles and forensic laboratory techniques.
  • Familiarity with controlled substance analysis methods and laboratory instrumentation.
  • Comprehension of criminal law and forensic science applications.
  • Ability to communicate complex scientific concepts clearly to non-experts.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in record-keeping.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.

Working Conditions:
