Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Radiologic Technologist II to join our team at UMass Memorial Health. As a key member of our diagnostic imaging department, you will be responsible for preparing patients for exams, obtaining and examining requisitions, and ensuring patient comfort and modesty at all times.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare patients for exams, ensuring their comfort and modesty at all times.
  • Obtain and examine requisitions for imaging examinations, verifying patient identification and ensuring accurate documentation.
  • Participate in patient transfers, positioning, and instructing patients for optimal imaging results.
  • Follow departmental policies and procedures, making adjustments and improvements as needed.
  • Provide radiation protection to unaffected areas of the body, adhering to prescribed safety standards.
  • Calculate and select proper technical factors for imaging procedures, selecting equipment and positioning patients for optimal results.
  • Evaluate images for diagnostic quality, adjusting techniques and factors as necessary.
  • Operate imaging equipment according to specific diagnostic procedures and established routines.
  • Review electronic images for quality and completeness, transferring or duplicating films/images as directed.
  • Follow PACs workflow procedures, working with electronic work lists and ensuring all images meet quality standards.
  • Initiate hard stops and notify staff as necessary, monitoring patients receiving contrast for adverse reactions.
  • Explain procedures to patients and family members, answering questions and addressing concerns.
  • Assist physicians in specialized examinations, preparing equipment and supplies as needed.
  • Ensure images, examination requisitions, and records are properly completed for patient identification, statistical, and billing purposes.
  • Prepare images for reading by radiologists, maintaining competence in standard radiologic procedures.
  • Report hazardous conditions or equipment breakdowns to supervisors, taking defective equipment out of service.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area, ensuring examination rooms are properly supplied with equipment and materials.
Requirements
  • RTR licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, including a temporary (1 year) MA license.
  • ARRT certification in Radiology within 12 months from date of hire.
  • BLS certification.
  • Some specialty modalities may require additional formal training and certification.
Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions

This position requires work indoors in a normal patient care environment, with medium physical demands.
