Role Overview
The Verkada Security Team is fundamentally an engineering-driven group. A key aspect of our mission is to develop frameworks, tools, and platform services that enhance security and privacy controls. In this position, you will engineer distributed systems capable of managing high traffic loads, leverage your cryptographic expertise, and introduce new services that safeguard customer and personal data. The diverse nature of this role will involve coding across various technology stacks and collaborating with Verkada's engineering teams, always prioritizing security and privacy.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement security and privacy infrastructure, including services that seamlessly integrate security into our systems, applications, and devices.
  • Architect systems to effectively handle increasing data volumes as Verkada grows, ensuring performance and security are never compromised.
  • Guide and mentor junior engineers in their professional development.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering and product teams to enhance the security of Verkada's offerings, exceeding client expectations.
  • Work alongside other engineering leaders to define, communicate, and execute goals, priorities, and processes.
  • Partner with the CISO and security team to broaden Verkada's comprehensive security and privacy initiatives.
  • Share your security knowledge both internally and externally through conferences, presentations, blogs, and contributions to open-source projects.
  • Engage in projects focused on end-to-end encryption and data protection (both at rest and in transit), all aimed at securing customer information.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience as a software engineer or security engineer with a strong coding background.
  • Proven coding abilities and a passion for programming on a daily basis.
  • Extensive experience with AWS, GCP, or other cloud service platforms.
  • Interest and enthusiasm for exploring new security and privacy products, features, and methodologies.
  • Exceptional collaborative skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

Benefits:

  • Comprehensive company-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Unlimited paid time off along with 11 company-wide paid holidays.
  • Wellness allowance.
  • Commuter benefits.
  • Daily provision of healthy lunches and dinners.
  • Generous paid parental leave and fertility benefits.

Culture and Values:

  • Ownership: Smaller teams promote autonomy and a heightened sense of ownership.
  • Persistence and Grit: We learn from both our successes and failures, iterating and pivoting as necessary, with our vision guiding our actions.
  • Teamwork: Our focus on shared priorities fosters collaboration and reliance on peers for input, feedback, and motivation, enabling us to achieve our objectives more effectively.

To determine appropriate starting salaries, we consider various factors, including work location, candidate skills and experience, market demands, and internal equity. The actual starting salary may vary based on these factors and is just one component of Verkada's total rewards package, which may also include additional compensation forms based on role, such as sales incentives, discretionary bonuses, and/or equity in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).
