Position Overview:
We are currently seeking a dedicated Metal Casting Technician to join our dynamic team in Sterling Heights. This role provides an opportunity to engage in the development of future transportation solutions while also supporting our Aerospace division by crafting components that fulfill current and future customer demands.
What is Metal Casting?
Metal casting is an intricate and rewarding process. Traditionally, it serves as the cornerstone of metal fabrication, involving the transformation of metals and alloys from one state to another: from solid to liquid and back to solid.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Metal Casting Technician, you will be responsible for:
- Preparing foams and patterns for the casting process.
- Pouring, shaking out, and torching molds to ensure quality and precision.
- Ensuring all tools and components leaving the casting area are thoroughly finished, cleaned, and inspected.
- Operating essential equipment, including overhead cranes, in a safe manner.
- Conducting safety checks to confirm molds are ready for pouring and that all safety measures are in place.
- Sifting and packing sand into mold sections and core boxes using hand or pneumatic tools.
- Positioning patterns within mold sections and securely clamping them together.
- Setting up, pouring, and torching molds, adding molten metal as necessary.
- Cleaning and smoothing molds, cores, and core boxes, addressing any surface imperfections.
- Operating ovens or furnaces for core baking or metal melting processes.
- Learning additional facets of the role to enhance your skill set.
Qualifications:
To be considered for this position, candidates should possess:
- A High School diploma or GED.
- Proficiency in English, including reading, writing, and speaking.
- A strong understanding of the importance of punctuality and reliability in the workplace.
