Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Medical Records Coding and Data Specialist to join our team at TriHealth. This role involves reviewing and interpreting clinical documentation to assign accurate and complete codes, modifiers, MSDRG's, APR-DRG's, SOI, ROM, POA indicators, discharge dispositions, and other data elements required for appropriate reimbursement.

About the Role

This is a critical position in our organization, requiring strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities. As a Medical Records Coding and Data Specialist, you will work closely with various departments, including Billing and Denials teams, CDMP, and Care Coordination, to ensure seamless data flow and accurate coding.

Responsibilities
  • Reviews and interprets clinical documentation to assign accurate and complete codes, modifiers, MSDRG's, APR-DRG's, SOI, ROM, POA indicators, discharge dispositions, and other data elements required for appropriate reimbursement.
  • Collaborates effectively with associate departments to perform and respond to data quality checks and payer/claims issues.
  • Abstracts demographic and clinical data into hospital health data management systems.
  • Participates in audits, training of new employees, education, project teams, etc., as needed.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should possess:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in ICD and CPT coding, DRG's, MSDRG's, POA indicators, post-acute transfer rules, disposition status, disease process and treatment, anatomy and medical terminology, and clinical documentation requirements.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks accordingly.
Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience in a related field and certification in medical records coding (e.g., RHIT/RHIA, CPC/CCA) would be advantageous.

Working Conditions

This role requires sitting for extended periods, frequent walking, standing, and reaching. You must also have excellent hearing, vision, and use of hands.

Salary and Benefits

The estimated salary for this position is $65,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience. In addition to a competitive salary, we offer a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) matching, and paid time off.
