Job Description

General Purpose of Job:

As a Clinical Assistant in our Urology department, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care. Under the guidance of our physicians and advanced practice providers, you will be responsible for efficiently processing patients through the clerical and clinical areas of the practice.

Essential Duties:

  • Prepare patients for examination, obtain vital signs, and document information accurately.
  • Perform laboratory and diagnostic testing as needed.
  • Answer and screen phone calls, taking accurate messages and distributing them to the appropriate personnel.
  • Schedule tests and referral appointments for patients.
  • Administer oral and injectable medication, and phone prescriptions to pharmacies.
  • Engage in patient and family teaching, promoting an educational environment.
  • Work gaps in care registries to improve the quality of care.
  • Maintain logs and required checks, including refrigerator temperatures, medications, oxygen, and equipment.
  • Participate in in-services, committees, and quality control initiatives to maintain practice standards.
  • Inventory, order, and restock areas as necessary.
  • Maintain and clean equipment and environmental safety as required.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrate knowledge and respect patient right to privacy by following HIPAA Privacy and Security policies and procedures.

  • Role model behaviors that value diversity and create an inclusive environment.
  • Communicate with patients, families, and customers using AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank).
  • Work in a safe manner and report any hazards identified in the work environment or related to assigned responsibilities.

Work Experience:

  • Six months of specialty experience in a clinical setting may be required.
  • Relevant clinical experience within the past 5 years, or completion of a medical assistant program in the past 2 years.
  • Previous work experience in a medical office setting is preferred.
  • MA Certification is preferred.
  • Experience with an EMR is preferred.

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of an accredited medical assistant program, including an externship, or a minimum of 5 years of Sparrow medical assistant experience in a clinical capacity.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to provide age-specific care, addressing physical and safety needs, psychosocial concerns, and educational level.
  • Necessary visual and auditory acuity to monitor patient condition and operate department equipment.
  • Demonstrate a positive team attitude and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with clients, families, providers, and co-workers.
  • Ability to work in an EMR environment.
