Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Substation Engineer to join our team at Apex Systems. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and developing high-voltage substation projects from conception to completion.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage substation projects from early stage to construction and commissioning, ensuring timely and budget-friendly delivery.
  • Collaborate with project managers to support engineering requirements and scope development.
  • Plan, coordinate, and complete large-scale or multiple medium/small complex projects within budget and scheduling guidelines.
  • Develop detailed work plans, schedules, project estimates, resource plans, and status reports.
  • Secure required resources and manage budgets, risks, and changes using formal processes and tools.
  • Conduct project meetings and track project progress and analysis.
  • Identify issues and challenges, measure results, and implement solutions.
  • Provide information to internal and external clients on moderate to complex issues.
  • Create and communicate presentation materials for report-outs and updates with various stakeholders.
  • Provide training, due diligence, and technical oversight of external engineers of record for assigned substation projects.
  • Secure engineering consulting resources from approved suppliers and coordinate with project stakeholders to develop and secure substation sites.
  • Competitively source, select, and contract geotechnical, survey, engineering, and construction services.
  • Coordinate engineering deliverables for FERC Order 1000 competitive requests for proposals and design/construction of awarded projects.
  • Represent internal and external interests on assigned projects, including presentations/briefings on current progress, issues, and risk mitigation.
  • Support Transmission Services during review of interconnection documentation and ensure project deliverables meet specific off-taker requirements.
  • Manage project long-lead major material orders to minimize risk of delays or exceeding project budget.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil/Structural Engineering.
  • 5+ years experience in substation design and engineering of high-voltage substation projects.
  • Project Engineering and/or Project Management experience with a strong bias for action.
  • PMP and/or P.E. in a related discipline is a plus.
  • Some travel required within North America.
