Position Overview

Applewood Centers is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing mental health and social services to children, adolescents, and families in Cuyahoga and Lorain counties. Our mission focuses on addressing a wide range of behavioral, emotional, and educational challenges through a comprehensive continuum of care, which includes outpatient counseling and residential treatment.

Program Details

The Residential Clinical Services Program is designed to offer specialized treatment for youth aged 11 to 18 who are experiencing significant mental health challenges or exhibiting self-harming, risk-taking, and aggressive behaviors. Our multidisciplinary team collaborates to tailor interventions that meet the unique needs of each client, fostering recovery by building on their strengths. We emphasize character development, self-management, and leadership skills while promoting a positive peer culture. Clients also benefit from access to a full spectrum of behavioral health and social service programs, including foster care and counseling, which facilitate their reintegration into the community.

Internship Responsibilities

As a Clinical Services Intern in Residential Treatment, you will operate under the guidance of the Program Manager/Field Instructor. Your role will involve providing both individual and group counseling to clients within the residential setting. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Facilitating Partial Hospitalization Skills groups alongside a trained therapist
  • Co-leading Group Behavioral Health Counseling sessions
  • Participating in clinical rounds and staffing meetings
  • Engaging in weekly team meetings and departmental training sessions
  • Receiving training in clinical documentation, including progress notes for both PH and group counseling
Work Environment

Internship activities will take place within the Applewood Campus. Flexibility in scheduling is required, with the possibility of evening and weekend hours.

Qualifications

This internship is intended for first or second-year Master's level students. A Bachelor's Degree is mandatory, and candidates must be currently enrolled in a Master's Level program in Social Work or Marriage and Family Therapy. A valid license in SWT, CT, or LSW is also necessary.
