Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Electrical Systems Specialist to join our team at The University of Texas at Austin. As an Electrical Systems Specialist, you will play a critical role in supporting the engineering team by providing high-level testing, troubleshooting, and repair of electronic components and sonar systems hardware.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assemble, test, and troubleshoot deliverable and experimental systems, electromechanical components, and assemblies that require aptitude, endurance, and dexterity.
  • Organize and maintain systems and support gear, ensuring efficient and effective operations.
  • Assist senior staff with systems integration projects for high-frequency sonar systems and provide training to junior staff as needed.
  • Creation and modification of engineering design documents, including component and assembly tracking.
  • Field and local in-water testing support, shipping, and logistics.
  • Other related functions as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Four years of related experience in electronic circuit troubleshooting and repair, miniature and surface mount soldering, and experience with navigation and radar systems, radio transceivers, and antennas.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, and effectively communicate with clients.
  • Proficiency with various operating systems, including Windows and Linux, and experience with computer hardware and networking.
  • Able to work under pressure, accept supervision, and maintain regular and punctual attendance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in reading schematics, electrical component symbols, and functions, with experience in PCB design, specification, and fabrication.
  • High-level experience testing and troubleshooting power, analog, and digital circuitry.
  • Experience using electronic assembly and diagnostic equipment, including soldering equipment, oscilloscopes, and multimeters.
  • Ability to manage multiple overlapping projects and related tasking.

  • Some weekend, evening, and holiday work.
  • Possible interstate/intrastate travel.
