Position Overview
The Nutritional Cook is responsible for preparing meals in sufficient quantities for patient dining, including specialized dishes as required for therapeutic diets. This role entails adhering to the established menu while also assisting with meal service and kitchen cleanliness as necessary. Additional tasks may be assigned by the food service manager.
Compensation:
Compensation for the Prep and Cook position ranges from $10.00 to $14.00, contingent upon experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the quality of food and provide assistance to colleagues in the department as needed.
- Maintain accurate food counts.
- Uphold a clean working environment, adhering to food handling guidelines.
- Engage appropriately with residents, their families, and team members.
- Set and clean tables as required.
- Wash dishes and, when necessary, pots and pans.
- Complete additional assigned tasks when not engaged in cooking or food preparation.
Special Requirements:
- A genuine interest in working with patients and in food service as it relates to comprehensive patient care.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with supervisors, co-workers, and other departments.
- Capability to follow recipes and menus, particularly those related to therapeutic diets.
- Adherence to meal schedules.
- Ability to perform under pressure during peak times.
- Willingness to follow instructions and prepare food for special occasions as requested.
- Utilization of initiative and sound judgment within the scope of the job description.
Qualifications:
- Ability to read, write, and follow both written and verbal instructions.
- Basic mathematical skills necessary for following recipes.
- Fundamental knowledge of large-scale food preparation and cooking is advantageous.
- Ability to estimate food quantities based on written recipes.
- Familiarity with health regulations as established by public health authorities.
Work Environment:
The work setting includes a clean, well-lit, and ventilated kitchen with a controlled climate, except when moving between walk-in refrigerators and freezers.
Dress Code:
Compliance with the facility's dress code policy is required, including wearing a facility department shirt, white pants and shoes, and hair and beard nets as applicable.
