Job Title: Pathology Assistant

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Lab Director and Associate Pathologist, the Pathology Assistant will assist in the preparation of human surgical specimens and perform other assigned duties to ensure optimal patient care and the safety and efficiency of the Pathology Department.

Responsibilities:
  • Specimen Processing and Gross Description: Accurately and efficiently provide gross descriptions of all surgical specimens, troubleshoot issues with Dragon Voice recognition, create new templates for dictation, and accurately dissect tissue and label cassettes for processing.
  • Gross Room Quality Control and Equipment Maintenance: Perform daily and monthly instrument processes, troubleshoot and resolve quality control failures and instrument failures, and maintain an adequate supply of inventory.
  • Team Skills: Participate in the team effort to efficiently complete all required department work, analyze work processes, and contribute to improving workflow.
  • Administrative Responsibilities: Assist in the organization and coordination of anatomic pathology conferences, prepare documents and tissue for send-out cases, and assist pathologists in preparing for accreditation inspections.
  • Safety: Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhere to universal precautions, and demonstrate adequate knowledge of disaster responses and laboratory safety policies.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of a Baccalaureate degree in biomedical or health sciences.
  • Current Pathologist's Assistant certification through the American Society for Clinical Pathology.
  • 3 or more years of experience in a clinical pathology setting, with dictation experience and knowledge of pathology computer systems.
