Role Overview

As a Structural Engineer, you will utilize your extensive expertise in civil and structural design methodologies to independently plan and execute projects that require critical judgment in selecting and applying engineering techniques, procedures, and standards. You will also innovate solutions to complex challenges, and prepare or adjust drawings, specifications, calculations, charts, and graphs while ensuring compliance with relevant codes and recognized engineering practices.

This role offers a hybrid work environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with production and safety teams to devise structural design solutions, including the analysis of manufacturing tools and safety systems.
  • Conduct design analysis, calculations, modeling, and validation for manufacturing plant designs, including lifting devices and fixtures.
  • Prepare design assessments and validations for structurally related components of HVAC systems and other manufactured products.
  • Create, oversee, and approve structural drawings for fabrication purposes.
  • Engage with external parties, including various regulatory bodies, to secure approvals for structural designs as needed.
  • Perform cost-benefit analyses of different designs, providing justification for structural component sizing and selection.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in collaborating with engineering and production teams on diverse projects as required.
  • Conduct inspections on the manufacturing floor to verify adherence to structural designs.
  • Maintain plant certification standards.
  • Work collaboratively with other engineering disciplines as part of a comprehensive design team.
  • Utilize various structural engineering software, contributing to technological advancements and improvements.
  • Provide leadership within a multidisciplinary engineering team and manufacturing setting.
  • Possess knowledge of structural and safety codes established by various organizations.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in civil and/or structural engineering.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license is mandatory.
  • Ability to create efficient and constructible designs as part of cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for positive client interactions.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated with the capacity to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Commitment to ongoing technical learning and personal growth.
  • Detail-oriented with a diligent work ethic.
  • Ability to perform under pressure in time-sensitive situations.
  • Willingness to travel across North America as necessary.
  • Experience in a shop environment, adhering to safety protocols and exercising caution.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with metal fabrication and manufacturing environments.
