The Nursing Supervisor at Friendly Senior Living is responsible for the supervision of the nursing service rendered throughout the Home during a specified tour of duty. This role assumes administrative responsibility as needed to handle emergencies which may arise on the designated tour of duty. The Nursing Supervisor cooperates with Nursing Service Administration in formulating Nursing Policies and Procedures and in evaluating the effectiveness of the nursing program.
Responsibilities
Assess the quality of care being rendered throughout the Home; make staffing adjustments necessary to provide quality patient care in all areas of the Home.
Provide general supervision of the nursing staff and act as a resource person to all levels of nursing personnel.
Provide orientation of emergency procedures and nursing procedures for agency personnel and for new staff when necessary.
Make independent decisions in regard to patient care within the perimeters of established policies and procedures.
Evaluate emergencies and initiate appropriate actions in emergency situations.
Provide continuity of care by interpreting the departmental philosophy of care and goals of nursing service to the nursing staff on the designated tour of duty.
Interpret administrative and departmental policies and procedures to staff and assure compliance with established policies by staff.
Evaluate and/or participate in the evaluation process for the nursing staff on the assigned tour of duty.
Assist Nurse Managers and Charge Nurses to handle personnel grievances; maintain adequate personnel anecdotal notes to document personnel problems and/or achievements.
Participate in staff education program of the Home; may conduct staff education programs for the staff on assigned tour of duty.
Participate in research or quality assurance programs of the Home.
Participate in the formulation of policies and procedures of the Nursing Department.
Participate in Inservice Education Fire and Safety Programs. May attend meetings and workshops to improve job skills and/or working relationships.
